"The “EU-funded Twinning Project” in Jordan is seeking for a “Project Administration Assistant (Language Assistant)” - on a full-time base employment as per the below job profile.

Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications


University degree in Translation and/or Interpreting (English to Arabic and vice versa); or comparable qualification


 

Professional experience


at least 1-2 years professional experience in in translation and/or interpretation activities; experience with simultaneous interpretation would be an asset


Other knowledge, additional competences


Native speaker of Arabic and professional fluency in English language (both oral and written); knowledge of German would be asset;
Familiarity with legal and police terminology in Arabic and English languages;
Excellent communication and organizational skills;
work experience in international projects / organizations and / or at least one year of professional work experience or studies outside of Jordan would be an advantage;
very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office); Familiarity with social media would be an advantage.
ability to establish and maintain effective working relations and to work in a team;
initiative and high flexibility;
flexibility to travel, if necessary, within Jordan and Germany.
a driver’s license for cars would be an advantage;
Certificate of non-criminal record
2 references from a current or previous manager and/or an instructor from university


 

The applicant may not be (or have been in the past 6 months) a civil servant or agent of the beneficiary administration nor be on leave from the beneficiary to take up the position.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the RTA, the language assistant is responsible for:

1. translating and interpreting

2. supporting the project and office management

Any other relevant tasks requested by the manager

 

The Project language assistant performs the following tasks:

Tasks

Assist in all language matters in the project implementation

The project technical assistant


interprets during conferences, workshops, meeting and seminars or other oral conversations from Arabic to English and vice versa;
translates reports, legal documents, training material, information material, reports and other written material from Arabic to English and vice versa;
drafts written materials in relation to the project in Arabic and English language;
assists the RTA and the Short-Term Experts involved in the project related to language;
assists the RTA in identifying, contracting and monitoring translation and interpretation services;
supports the RTA in the elaboration of mission programmes and schedules for Short-Term Experts;
develops and maintains close working contacts and relations with Jordanian officials involved in the Twinning Project, other beneficiary organizations and the Twinning project team;


 

Office and project management

The project technical assistant


support in organizing conferences, training sessions, workshops, meetings, expert missions, study visits, etc.
perform necessary office management tasks, including filing; photocopies and scans documents as needed;
stand in for the RTA Administrative Assistant in her/his absence;
perform other tasks as assigned.


Other duties/additional tasks

The field/data collection assistant


performs other duties and tasks at the request of management


 

​Overview:

We are looking for a Project Administration Assistant (Language Assistant) to the German Resident Twinning Adviser (RTA) of an EU-funded Twinning Project in cooperation with the Jordan Police. The Twinning project is implemented by a German team under the lead of the Bavarian Police. The Language Assistant will support the RTA in translating documents and project deliverables, as well as in providing interpretation during project events and workshops and in conducting office management tasks. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) which supports the Twinning Project in all matters related to the project, will be the contracting authority of the RTA Language Assistant.

Twinning is a European Union instrument for institutional cooperation between Public Administrations of EU Member States and of partner countries. Twinning projects bring together public sector expertise from EU Member States and partner countries with the aim of achieving concrete mandatory operational results through peer to peer activities and missions.
