### Summary
You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NAVAL ARCHITECTURE) in the Engineering Department, Availability Support Division, Deputy Officer in Charge, at the Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) Detachment located in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The incumbent is responsible for providing highly skilled engineering technical support services as in the areas of naval architecture, installation, operation, alteration, maintenance and readiness of shipboard equipment and services.
Tour of duty is for 18 months (unaccompanied). The Kingdom of Bahrain, comprised of a number of islands totaling 253 square miles, occupies a central location in the Arabian Gulf. The current workweek is Sunday through Thursday. Employees hired from continental U.S. will receive Sunday Premium Pay (computed at 25% of basic hourly rate, eight hours per week).

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference eligibles residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
Military Spouses may apply 30 days before their anticipated arrival date. However, they will not receive preference until arrival at the foreign location. Additional documentation may be required prior to granting preference.

### Responsibilities
* You will provide contact administrative services for ship repair work conducted by contractors who are working under complex ship repair contracts for the fleet.
* You will furnish guidance to FDRMC Project Managers and private shipyard engineering department personnel in the resolution of repair/overhaul or test problems.
* You will resolve complex design projects associated with naval architecture issues aboard naval vessels.
* You will develop sketches or written clarification to supplement drawings and specifications used in contact specification.
* You will give recommendations to stakeholders to allow repair/overhaul or test work to proceed.

* Approximately 30% of the work is performed in an office setting. Riding the ship during sea trials (2-3 days) will be required.
* Resolution of shipboard technical issues involves working on the ship where considerable walking, climbing, stooping and standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks is required.
* The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions. The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor.
* You will be required to perform the position's duties at a variety of job sites within the local commuting area.
* This positions requires the incumbent to perform temporary duty travel approximately 10% of the time.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification via command sponsored CPR training and annual refresher training during working hours.
* Pay retention will be extended to eligible Department of Defense (DOD) employee(s) who apply through a formal recruitment program and are selected for a position at an overseas location.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones). .
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* This position requires the incumbent to perform tempoary duty travel approximately 10% of the time.
### Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying knowledge of various technical fields (i.e. preservation, corrosion control, mechanical and structural engineering) to resolve technical engineering issues which arise in the design, maintenance, testing, safety, and/or operation of ship structural equipment and coating systems; 2) Partnering with ship's force, prime contractor, Fleet Maintenance Activities (FMA), maintenance team members and other stakeholders to provide instruction related to development of ship repair recommendations; 3) Analyzing engineering test results to provide technical guidance on depot level ship work and testing; and 4) Communicating technical engineering information to senior engineers, project managers, technicians and/or maintenance team personnel. This is a Key/Emergency-Essential position. In the event of a crisis situation or war, you must continue to perform assigned duties to support mission requirements until relieved by proper authority. In addition, this position requires Anthrax and Smallpox vaccinations. The Anthrax vaccination is a series of 6 shots occurring at 0, 2 and 4 weeks; then at 6, 12 and 18 months, followed by an annual booster as long as you remain in the position. Smallpox vaccination is a one-time inoculation. We strongly recommend that you receive the Smallpox vaccination and begin the Anthrax series before arriving in Bahrain and provide a shot card or other medical verification upon arrival. If this is not possible, you will be required to report to the Branch Health Clinic to receive these mandatory vaccinations within 15 days of arrival. The Branch Health Clinic will also provide subsequent Anthrax vaccinations (to complete the series) as well as annual boosters. You may be exempted from Anthrax and Smallpox requirements if you provide acceptable medical documentation which provides medical justification for exemption.
