PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Bechtel is a global provider of engineering, construction, and project management services with a reputation for excellence and innovative project delivery. An immediate opportunity exists, within our Mining and Metals business unit to be part of the ALBA Potline 6 Project in Manama, Bahrain.

The Board of Directors of Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C (ALBA) has directed the ALBA Management Team to implement the construction of Potline 6 (the “Project”) and all other necessary facilities to produce an additional 540,000 tonnes per year (tpy) (nominal) of production capacity. The Project will include key facilities such as: Green Anode Production, Anode Bake, Anode Rodding, Reduction & Reduction Services, Casthouse and all associated infrastructure and sub facilities.

The Project Leadership Team will be based in Manama, Bahrain, supported by the New Delhi Execution Unit.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Infrastructure C/S/A Field Engineer position is responsible for the organization and direction of C/S/A field engineering activities relating to construction engineering, subcontracts, and engineering liaison with the design functional group and contractors on a large project.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

- Coordinate with design engineering group for constructability and design issues.
- Responsible for quantity take-off, control, tracking, reporting and forecasting.
- Direct the design of temporary construction facilities as required.
- Issue field sketches to support construction needs.
- Determine timing for as builts or redlines to design engineering based on contract, client and/or design requirements.
- Direct the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials (FMRs), material substitution, services and equipment.
- Approve field requisitions as delegated by the Field Construction Manager.
- Review Material Receiving Reports (MRRs) and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
- Ensure Engineering Inspection Reports (EIRs) are being done for equipment and materials received.
- Coordinate and monitor the interface between the construction automation plan and the project controls program at the jobsite.
- Develop and manage the construction quality program.
- Direct preparation of cost estimates for construction activities and coordinate the preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports.
- Coordinate with Superintendents and Subcontractors to plan construction schedules.
- Provide support to 3 week look ahead meetings.
- Plan and recommend procedures to be implemented by Superintendents to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.
- Work with customer’s resident engineering and operating personnel to coordinate construction activities.
- Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment and quality comply with design plans and specifications.
- Implement controls over variables affecting job progress to ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials and equipment and ensure that other corporate programs are fully utilized.
- Administer major subcontract changes and represent the company in major contractual discussions and negotiations.
- Coordinate field engineering efforts to support to punchlisting and inspection walkdowns for turnover to pre-ops.
- Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.
- Work with project rigging engineers to ensure Standard Wok Process Procedure (SWPP) Compliance, critical lift review and rigger competence.
- Ensure compliance with the implementation, accuracy and use of all Construction Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Direct preparation of Construction Release Packages (CRPs) / Turnover Packages (TOPs) for submittal to pre-ops.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university, or 15 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
- A minimum of five years field engineering experience in at least one discipline as well as a minimum of two years supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of EPCM contract management. Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration. Knowledge of the use of subcontracts. Knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
- Extensive background in industrial construction projects, managing staff, providing leadership, maintaining good client relationships and developing talent within the project.

- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
- Must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Must be familiar with current industry quality standards.
- Middle East and Aluminium Smelter experience prefered.
