In your role as a Product Development Scientist at Kellogg, you will be part of our success by:
+ Being responsible for managing multiple new product launches, product improvements, line extensions, or limited time offers from concept to successful launch within agreed timeframes. Development includes attention to aspects such as Technical & Financial feasibility, formulation accuracy, manufacturing process development, execution of Pilot Plant and plant trials and confirming commercial stability.
+ Providing technical direction and leadership within the department as an expert in a specific discipline who keeps current with the latest developments trends and technology through investigation, training, and communication.
+ Providing innovative, timely, and cost-effective improvements, concepts, developments, or scientific insight and understanding with respect to new or existing products or processes.
+ Upholding quality image standards. Appropriately addresses both project and non-project related quality or food safety issues when encountered.
+ Remaining well-informed of state of the business and leveraging knowledge to drive down project time/costs. Anticipates obstacles affecting other business functions.
+ Organising and executing all aspects of laboratory, pilot-scale and plant testing. Assist Food Technologist in making preparations for plant testing.
+ Participating in BFI concept testing when possible. Develops prototypes corresponding to top scoring concepts in order to define food objectives for PDR development. Investigates the technical feasibility of concepts for PDR development.
+ Develops prototypes for consumer testing that meet the food and financial objectives outlined in the PDR. Collaborates with international product developers to ensure efficient technology transfer to the manufacturing site.
+ Fully documenting all project formulas and testing results in Kellogg’s official laboratory notebook or in Kellogg-issued electronic device. Inputting consumer test formulas and official formulas into the formulation system.
+ Ensuring that formula undergoes FAIR evaluation prior to CLT/IHUT testing, when available. Works with procurement to determine ingredient availability/cost information.
+ Determining critical ingredient specification parameters and communicates these to quality.
+ Scheduling equipment and develops test plan for all lab & pilot plant tests. Ensures adequate raw materials, resources, and timing for testing.
+ Working with Food Safety and Nutritional Regulatory Affairs to identify potential allergen and safety issues. Ensures these are communicated as early as possible to the team. Also confirms that nutritional requirements are met.
+ Setting up appropriate shelf life and sensory testing plans in accordance with the distribution requirements of the product.
+ Working with Plant and Engineering team to understand and define process needs and capabilities as they relate to the targeted production line. Provides tentative formula and processing parameters to support the development of the capital appropriation. Assists Process Engineer and Food Technologist in identifying issues and making preparations for plant testing.
+ Coordinating and/or assisting in CLT/IHUT production in pilot plant or manufacturing plant. Produces image plant food to field in CLT/IHUT.
+ Submitting CLT/IHUT test samples for chemistry analysis to generate nutrition labeling information. Provides input to Nutrition & Regulatory Affairs to generate nutrition information to ensure product labels are correct.
+ Working with packaging support personnel to coordinate testing as it relates to packaging material/food interaction, distribution, and pack fit analysis for pack-weight determination.
+ Issuing approved formula to plant for raw material ordering prior to startup.
+ Developing the “Image and Defect” Quality Manual and supporting process documentation. Supports Quality in providing image food, training to operations and takes a firm and confident stance to uphold quality image standards.
+ Executing trials and start up plan, addressing start-up issues. Attends and supports daily team meetings and food reviews during production startup.
+ Working with Quality representative, and Plant to refine/optimize the process, reduce COGS, and resolve quality issues.
+ Understanding competitive set and competitor technology differences.

As well as a hunger to learn and succeed in Research & Development , to be considered for this position you must be able to meet the following requirements:
+ You should have a Degree in Food Science, Engineering, or a related area, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in R&D in the food industry.
+ You must possess leadership, diplomacy, pro-activeness, action oriented, cost consciousness and good communication skills that will promote good relations with all facets of the local and worldwide business and other technical and scientific disciplines in the effective execution of projects to accomplish the company’s objectives.

This role is based in Singapore. Travel to, and work in, manufacturing, suppliers, or test facilities are typically required 30-50% of the time. The exploration and product development work will be conducted in the laboratory, 3rd party sites or international facility. Also, projects may require working beyond the normal workday hours, shift work, Singapore public holidays and on weekends. Operation of process equipment is occasionally necessary.
